Imaging myocardial carcinoid with T2-STIR CMR

چکیده
We used T2-STIR (Short Tau Inversion Recovery) cardiovascular magnetic resonance to demonstrate carcinoid tumor metastases to the heart and liver in a 64-year-old woman with a biopsy-proven ileal carcinoid tumor who was referred because of an abnormal echocardiogram.

A Comparative Study of Different CMR Methods for Detecting Myocardial Edema Associated with Acute Myocardial Infarction
Introduction: A number of CMR imaging approaches have been proposed for detecting myocardial edema accompanying acute myocardial infarctions (AMI). T1 [1] and T2 [2] maps, T2-prepared SSFP [3] and cine SSFP (bSSFP) [4,5] are potential alternatives to the most commonly employed T2-weighted STIR (T2-STIR) [6] imaging. However, the relative sensitivities of the various approaches in relation to th...
متن کاملDiagnostic performance of T2-weighted CMR for evaluation of acute myocardial injury
Background Edema-sensitive T2-weighted cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) based on fast spin-echo (FSE) imaging is a useful modality to detect acute myocardial injury. Conventional T2-weighted CMR uses three inversion-recovery (IR) pulses, the first two to null the blood signal, and the last one (STIR) to null fat signal, but suffers from reduced myocardial signal and signal dropout. We compared ...
متن کاملCardiovascular MR T2-STIR imaging does not discriminate between intramyocardial haemorrhage and microvascular obstruction during the subacute phase of a reperfused myocardial infarction
OBJECTIVE Microvascular obstruction (MVO) and intramyocardial haemorrhage (IMH) are known complications of myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury. Whereas MVO is an established marker for a poor clinical outcome, the clinical significance of IMH remains less well defined. Cardiovascular MR (CMR) and T2 weighted short tau inversion recovery (T2-STIR) imaging have been used to detect IMH and to ...
متن کاملMulti-vendor, multicentre comparison of contrast-enhanced SSFP and T2-STIR CMR for determining myocardium at risk in ST-elevation myocardial infarction
AIMS Myocardial salvage, determined by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), is used as end point in cardioprotection trials. To calculate myocardial salvage, infarct size is related to myocardium at risk (MaR), which can be assessed by T2-short tau inversion recovery (T2-STIR) and contrast-enhanced steady-state free precession magnetic resonance imaging (CE-SSFP). We aimed to determine how...
متن کاملThe evolution of myocardium at risk by T2-STIR MR imaging the first week after acute myocardial ischemia
Background Myocardial salvage is currently being used as endpoint in several clinical trials and is determined by relating final infarct size to myocardium at risk (MaR). T2-weighted imaging (T2-STIR) cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has previously been shown to enable assessment of MaR up to one week after acute myocardial infarction. Recent experimental data indicate that the extent of MaR by...
